Is TransferringUP Legit? Reviews, Results, and What We Actually Do

Ajay · May 29, 2026 · 7 min read

If you found this page, you're probably doing the smart thing: vetting a consulting company before you trust it with the most important application of your life. Good. You should be skeptical of anyone who promises to get you into a top school. This page is our honest answer to the question — including the parts most companies leave out.

The founder transferred from a 2.9 GPA to Cornell — in one year

TransferringUP wasn't built from a marketing playbook. It was built from a transfer application that, on paper, never should have worked.

Our founder, Ajay, graduated high school with a 2.9 GPA — the kind of number that gets you screened out of most "elite admissions" conversations before they start. One year later, he transferred into Cornell. Along the way he also collected acceptances from UVA, the University of Michigan, NYU, and USC.

That's the origin story, and it matters for one specific reason: the system we run for clients is the same system that produced that outcome. We didn't reverse-engineer transfer admissions from forums and rankings. We lived it, under exactly the conditions most of our clients are facing — a weak starting GPA, a short runway, and a long list of schools that supposedly don't take students like us.

What 40+ placements at top-30 schools actually means

Since then, we've placed 40+ students at top-30 schools. We say "placed," not "guaranteed," because those are two very different claims, and the difference is the whole point of this article.

These results are real and verifiable. They come from named schools, real application cycles, and students who can speak to what the process looked like from the inside. When you book a consultation, you can ask about specific outcomes — which schools, what the starting profiles looked like, and what changed between the first draft and the version that got in. We'd rather you pressure-test the track record than take a number on a homepage at face value.

What we won't do is fabricate star ratings or invent glowing quotes to pad a testimonials wall. The results stand on their own.

Independently verified by the Better Business Bureau

You should not have to take our word for any of this, and now you do not have to. TransferringUP is an accredited business with the Better Business Bureau (BBB), with an A- rating. Our client reviews are submitted and verified through our BBB profile, which means an impartial third party stands behind them, not us.

That matters for one reason: anyone can post a glowing testimonial on their own website. Very few admissions consultants are willing to be reviewed on a platform they do not control. We are, because the feedback is real. You can read those independently verified reviews on our Better Business Bureau profile and on our reviews page, where students name the schools they were admitted to and describe what the process actually looked like.

The full system: strategy, essays, and everything in between

A lot of "consulting" is really just essay editing with a higher price tag. That's not what this is. TransferringUP runs a complete system, because a transfer application is won or lost across every component at once — not in a single essay.

Here's what working with us actually includes:

  • Strategy — School list, narrative, and the "why transfer / why this school" case that ties your whole application together.
  • Essays — Your personal statement and supplements, built from your real story rather than a template.
  • Recommendation letters — Guidance on who to ask, how to ask, and how to position your recommenders so their letters reinforce your case.
  • Extracurriculars — Help identifying and building involvement that actually moves the needle for transfers.
  • Research — Support getting into research or comparable signal-building work when it strengthens your profile.
  • 24/7 support — Direct access when deadlines are close and questions can't wait until business hours.

The pieces are designed to work together. A strong essay attached to a weak school list, or great extracurriculars wrapped in a vague narrative, still loses. The system exists so nothing gets left to chance.

Why no honest consultant guarantees admission

Here's the line that separates legitimate consulting from a scam: no ethical consultant can guarantee admission. We don't, and you should walk away from anyone who does.

Admissions committees make the final call, and they weigh factors no outside company controls. What we can promise is that your application will be dramatically stronger, sharper, and more strategic than it would be on your own — and that we'll be honest with you about your odds the entire way, even when the honest answer isn't what you hoped to hear. A guarantee would be a lie. A genuinely better application is something we can actually deliver.

Addressing the concerns you'll find online

If you vet us thoroughly, you will run into mixed opinions, the same way you would for any consultant who charges a premium and works with a lot of students. We would rather address the common ones plainly than pretend a polarized reputation doesn't exist.

"It's expensive." It is a premium service and we don't pretend otherwise. Pricing is custom and quoted after a consultation, because what each student needs is different. What you pay for is a complete, done-with-you system and direct access for a full transfer cycle, not an hour of generic advice. If your situation doesn't call for that level of support, we will tell you on the call.

"The advice is generic or template-based." It is the opposite by design. We take a limited number of students, build each application around that student's real story, and write from scratch. There is no template. Our independently verified BBB reviews repeatedly single out the personalized plan, not boilerplate.

"Communication can be inconsistent." We hold ourselves to direct, around-the-clock access and weekly one-on-one calls, and we expect to be told the moment we fall short of that. If you ever feel out of the loop, that is on us, and we want to hear it immediately.

The students who get the most out of working with us are the ones who ask exactly these questions on the consultation call. Push hard. An honest company can take it.

About the "$400 package" and anonymous reviews

We will be direct, because vetting us is the smart thing to do. Some of the most-shared criticism of TransferringUP online describes paying for a "$400 package." TransferringUP has never sold a $400 package. We are a premium, full-cycle engagement, quoted custom after a consultation, and we have no record of those accounts among our clients. A review describing a $400 product is not describing a real TransferringUP service.

We cannot control what anonymous accounts post on forums, and we will not pretend a polarized online reputation does not exist. What we can do is point you to the feedback that is real and verifiable. Our reviews are independently verified by the Better Business Bureau, an impartial third party, where we hold an A- accredited rating. Those reviews, and the named results on our results page, are what we stand behind. If a review is anonymous and unverifiable, treat it the way you would treat any unsourced claim about any company: with healthy skepticism.

Who TransferringUP is built for

We specialize in underdogs — and we mean that literally, not as a tagline.

The students we do our best work with usually share a profile: a low GPA they're trying to climb out from under, a rejection (or several) they're trying to bounce back from, or a community-college path they're trying to turn into an Ivy-caliber transfer. If your numbers are already flawless and your story tells itself, you may not need us. If you're looking at your transcript and thinking there's no way a top school takes someone like you — that's exactly the situation this company was built to solve.

We've been the applicant on the wrong side of those odds. We know what it takes to flip them.
